Founded in 1980, the PBA has these goals: exchanging avicultural and scientific knowledge regarding the husbandry, reproduction, and biology of parrots of the genus Pionus establishing studbooks for each Pionus species to aid in responsible management of the captive population promoting the conservation of wild Pionus by supporting and assisting in the protection of habitat critical to the long-term survival of these magnificent birds
